Flamingos CasinoWe have a whole bunch of stuff to do before we leave USA. And Las Vegas seems like the last big city that we’ll be passing. The longest we dare push Vaga to stay on her own in the truck while we relax in a hotel is two nights. Long enough to wander around the main drag in amazement – short enough to not go further than shredding her bed. That was the first time I’ve seen her do that – can’t really understand why though; we took her for all our long walks through massive casinos and luxurious shopping malls…

Spent the day seeing how close we could drive to the North Korean border. Our friends in Seoul advised us that it might not be the best time to attempt this considering the sabre-rattling going on at the moment. As you can see from the photo, however, it all seemed quite friendly.

Many thanks to everyone on the Travel-ro team who invited us to their Christmas Party to do a little presentation of our journey. They also lent us a little internet dongle thing for our time in Seoul.

My next post will not be from Busan! This has been (and could well continue to be) the longest stop on our travels but what an opportunity we’ve had staying with the Agit people.

This weekend was the opening night of a grafitti exhibition – all week now 21 artists from Korea, Japan and USA have been staying here, working non-stop in a cloud of aerosol fumes, to leave behind one of the most colourful buildings I have seen in a long time.

Early in the morning we all moved to Samyeon – another shopping and entertainment district – to continue the celebrations. These Korean party zones are always good fun; hundreds and hundreds of eating and drinking places mixed in with discos, video arcades, kareoke rooms, pool halls, baseball courts and more – all crammed next to each other on the roads, in tents on the sidewalk, gaps between buildings, other gaps behind those gaps and all the way up to the top floor of the buildings themselves.

For me, that’s the strangest bit, going from floor to floor in a glass elevator looking for the next bizarre establishment…

The race is on to get to the border with Russia in good time because our three month visa already started. We just had to put the frustration about speeding through these countries aside – Poland, a country I last visited twenty years ago, we pass through in a day before Lithuania and Latvia, countries I have never been to, are due to pass tomorrow. It will be worth it in the end.

At last both our trucks are out and about – we’ve been invited to a electronic music festival to do the second of a series of events we hope to stage around the world. It’s all a bit of a mad rush, getting the vehicles ready in time and the growing feeling that, of course, that will never happen.

Time to leave. First, half of us drive out in a car to Czech Republic to rendez-vous with the first truck, the others will follow…
